At Singapore Management University

Singapore's rapidly growing Financial Services sector and position as Asia's banking and financial hub spawns a demand for a new breed of experienced IT professional who are also fluent in working collaboratively with senior counterparts in the operational and business aspects of banking. To meet this challenge, the Singapore Management University (SMU) Master of IT in Business Financial Services program (MITB-FS) has evolved into the world's premier post-graduate degree programme focused on developing mid-career professionals and senior managers for Banking Technology & Operations (T & O), as well as for related Banking areas such as risk management T&O, business analytics T&O, and corporate and shared services T&O.

MITB-FS provides the right platform for post-graduate students with prior working experience aspiring to be banking industry innovators and leaders capable of merging the power of information technology with their respective organisation's business needs, operational capabilities, and innovation strategies. This programme has also proven to be very effective transition platform for IT professionals from other industries - - outside of banking - - who desire to transition into Financial Services and who therefore need an accelerated and in-depth understanding of the connections amongst IT solutions, processes, operations and innovation strategy across the various segments of banking.

The distinctive curriculum and learning experience will enhance your capabilities for managing the complexities related to processes, operations, technology solutions and innovation strategies for all key segments of banking. The programme also provides in-depth knowledge of business methods and management concepts relevant to working in Banking Technology & Operations, as well as in the allied areas of risk management T&O, business analytics T&O, and corporate and shared services T&O.

MITB-FS graduates can relate technology to the business aspects of banking in both practical and sophisticated ways, can think through, articulate and visualize complex trade-offs, and are able to communicate effectively with peer professionals as well as with Banking CEOs, CFOs, COO's and CIOs.

MITB-FS is an intensive program. Full time students complete a minimum of 13 courses in 12 months. Part time students complete the same course load, but over a 24 month or longer period.

Since the first intake in 2007, MITB-FS has been co-designed and co-delivered by a core team of SMU faculty, financial services experts and executives, and members of the supporting technology vendor and consulting community. These deep connections with the industry ensure that the curriculum is relevant and responsive to emerging trends, and that the students are networked with potential employers.

The programme is part of SMU's School of Information Systems (SIS), recognised internationally for its highly innovative approach to research and education, and its strong working relationships with industry. SIS is home to the Living Analytics Research Centre (joint with Carnegie Mellon), the LiveLabs R&D Innovation Platform, the SCB iLab@SMU, the SMU – SAS Advanced Analytics Lab, the TCS- SMU iCity Lab, over 1000 Bachelors students, 100 MITB students, and 40 Ph.D. students.
